Payments and Reimbursement

Quick Answers About Insurance & Payments

  • Keep paying your Midwife. Your financial agreement requires regular payments in full, even if you expect insurance coverage.

  • Insurance is billed later. Claims are submitted after your care/delivery is complete.

  • Reimbursement usually comes to you. Most insurance plans send payment to the patient as reimbursement for amounts you already paid.

  • You’ll get statements (EOBs). These explain how claims were processed. Share them with us if you need help understanding them.

Continue Making Payments to Your Midwife

Please remember that you are required to continue making payments to your Midwife as outlined in your financial agreement, even if you expect your insurance to cover some or all of your care. These payments ensure your care is not interrupted.

Insurance payments are billed after your care/delivery has been completed. When your insurance pays, the reimbursement is usually sent directly to you, because you prepaid for your care. If your plan issues payment to the provider instead, the Midwife will send it to you.

How Insurance Billing Process Works with a Midwife

  1. Order for billing is placed. You request billing, and claims are prepared for submission.

  2. Care is completed. Claims are only submitted after appointments/delivery is provided to ensure everything is coded accurately. We cannot submit claims for prepayment.

  3. Insurance processes the claims. You will receive statements (often called an Explanation of Benefits or EOB) from your insurance company that show how your claims were handled.

  4. Review your EOB. If you have questions about what it means or how it was processed, please share your statement with us so we can help you understand it. It will always show if a payment was sent to you or the provider (Midwife). (Click link below to SUBMIT EOB)

  5. Reimbursement. In most cases, payments are sent to you as reimbursement for amounts you have already paid. If payment is sent to the provider (Midwife), we will notify you and the Midwife will send the payment to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why am I paying up front if I have insurance?
Because your financial agreement is with your Midwife. Insurance payments come later and typically reimburse you for the payments you’ve already made.

Who gets the insurance payment?
In many cases, you do. If the insurance pays the provider directly, the payment will be sent to you.

Can I pause my payments while insurance is pending?
No. Please continue making payments as agreed. If you’re experiencing difficulty, contact your Midwife to discuss options.

My EOB is confusing. Can you help?
Yes. Please share it with us, and we’ll explain how the claim was processed. (Click link above to SUBMIT EOB)

What if my claim is denied?
We can review the denial, advise on next steps, and when appropriate, submit corrections or support you through an appeal within your plan’s deadline.
